When people think of “the Land Down Under” Australia, they see wide open spaces of outback bush, kangaroos, cuddly quokkas, and clean air and water. However, Australia offers an array of things to do and enjoy than the usual expectations! A majority of international students are choosing to study in Australia because of its friendly, laid-back Aussie lifestyle, excellent education system, and high standard of living. Australia is home to thousands of research-led internationally prestigious universities ranked among the top in the world.

There are multiple top reasons why Australia draws many international students every year. This includes gaining a world-recognized higher education and personal development that will give a kickstart to their careers.

  1. Top Quality Education

Australia ranks as the third most popular student destination in the world. Every year, more and more international students choose Australia as their prior choice for undergraduate courses, masters, and doctorate programs. The place is also the third-largest provider of overseas education with over 1000 institutions and 20,000 courses to choose from. The Group of Eight (Go8) universities, also known as pioneers in research and education are the University of Melbourne, Australian National University, University of Sydney, The University of Queensland, Monash University, The University of New South Wales Sydney, The University of Western Australia and The University of Adelaide. These universities have immensely contributed in the fields of healthcare, cyber security, agriculture, and more, thus, continuing to be a popular choice for students.

Moreover, the country caters to the cross-border students with the best options for off-campus housing near major universities, such as Sydney student accommodation, Perth student accommodation, etc. However, due to the high demand for off-campus living, students are recommended to book their stay before arriving in the country to avoid high rents or missing out on good properties.

2. Cultural Diversity

Australia is a great place to learn about various cultures and meet people from different ethnicities. The Australian universities have a considerable population of international students and this only increases every year. This leads to a sense of community for local as well as international students as they are increasingly open to making friends. People in Australia have a high sense of equality and respect for each other which makes them friendly, easy-going, and practice common courtesies. The Australian government fosters cultural diversity, providing a rich learning experience inside and outside campus life.

3. Part-Time Work Opportunities

The Australian student visa allows international students with the work permit entitled to their visa. Australia gives students the opportunity to work up to a maximum of 40 hrs a fortnight per semester. This helps them cover living costs without compromising on study time. During semester break students can work unlimited hours and finding employment near the campus will be convenient. Having a resume ready beforehand will be helpful when applying for part-time jobs once you get there. Students can get work opportunities in restaurants, supermarkets, cafes, call centers, or retail stores. The minimum required skill is to know low to medium-level of English. Finding work in the field of study will help students gain industry-related work experience and a work visa upon graduation.

4. International Student Life

The country has some of the best student cities in the world, including Melbourne and Sydney and while the cost of living and studying here may appear high, it is comparatively cheaper than the UK or US. Still, if you are an international student, creating a budget for your living expenses is important. Students can enjoy a high standard of living and always be surrounded by Instagram-worthy locations and backgrounds. There are many options when it comes to recreational activities –anything from sports, and hiking to music concerts along with quality nightlife and gorgeous beaches. The public transportation system in Australia is efficient and students can use their student cards wherever applicable to get discounts or offers on food and transportation.

 5. Life After University

If you truly enjoy your time studying in Australia, you may be tempted to stay longer. Many international students are attracted to the sightseeing, standard of living, and laid-back environment in Australia. Some of them even aim to settle in the country by acquiring permanent residency. Australia also provides a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) that allows some international students to live in Australia and continue to work after they have graduated. Pursuing studies in Australia will offer a wide range of rewarding experiences as well as the possibility of world-class education to students.

It’s not hard to see why so many students choose to study abroad in Australia. For all these reasons and many more, Australia offers an unforgettable experience.

Do you wish to study abroad in Australia in 2022?

To support the dreams of Indian international students, the Australian Government released an exciting new initiative in February 2022. In an effort to strengthen ties with one of the country’s most crucial partners in the Indo-Pacific region, the Australian Foreign Minister announced an $11.2 million Maitri Scholarships Program. The amount of $11 million will be provided by the Australian government over the time span of four years which will support capable Indian students to study in world-class universities.
